Ignacio Figueredo
Biography:
Ignacio Ventura Figueredo was known as a folk musician and harpist. He was born in Algarrobito, Apure on July 31, 1989. At the young age of 11 he made his first presentation in San Juan de Payara. One of his earliest compositions is El Gaban, a form of the Venezuelan Joropo, was published in 1914. He composed his best works shortly after, Las Tres Damas, Guayabo Negro, Verdun, Guachamaron, and La Periquera.
In the year of 1935 he married Mercades Castillo and had eleven children. He was taken to Caracas in 1949 when he was heard during one of his presentations of Achaguas. Fredy Reyna, Reinaldo Espinoza Hernandez and Antonio Estevez were the ones to discover him and take him to Caracas. Ignacio astonished and captivated the public with his unique harp skills. From then, the public began calling him “Indio Figueredo” which means “The Indian Figueredo.” During the 1950s he made a number of presentations in various national stages as well as the radio. He also began teaching his own art to several musicians at The Caracas Music Academy.
